UMATILLA 38, Bayside 10 - Coach Ron Timson: "Coach, After dropping our first two games to two of the top-ten rated teams in our class we finally broke through with our first win of the year. We had turnover problems in the first two, and they were two very solid teams, so we knew we were better than we had played. On Friday we played a team up one class and beat them 38-10. We had no offensive turnovers (lost a well executed on-side kick), and had 343 yards rushing, and 35 passing. We had our A-back with 126, our C-back with 101 and our starting B-back with 82, while his backup got 33. I think our kids now realize how great it is not to turn the ball over. We are looking to get on a streak now. We will stay in touch. Ron T" (Coach Timson was a successful Double-Wing coach at Bennington, Nebraska befoe moving to Florida last year.)

GLASCOCK COUNTY 41, Riverside Military Academy 6 - First 3-win season for Glascock County in a lo-o-o-o-ng time. Congratulations to Coach John Bowen and thanks to Coach Dan King of Evans, Georgia for sending in the score - Coach Bowen writes: "We're currently 3-1. Also we have nearly 1000 yards on ground. We need to really pull out our game this Friday to have a great chance at a winning season. Currently, we have already had the best season in school history. I think I will have some good wedge video for you after the season. Thanks again for all your help and resources!!!"

We had 3 backs at 100 yards. It was a big win for us. Next up -the #2 team in class 3A."

FLORENCE 45, Morton 28 - Coach Steve Jones: "We moved to 3-1 on the season with a 45-28 victory over Morton. We were behind 14-28 at Half, but fought back to win . Our kids just don't quit and they beleive in the offense...4 game statistics: Rushing 177 attempts for 1042 yards... Passing 25 of 56 for 360 yards... 1st downs 71... Scoring: 129 points/ 32.2 per game... We begin division play this week vs. Jackson Lanier"

MISSOURI mosports.com

MOBERLY 41, Montgomery County - Coach Sam Knopik: "we were playing a team that employed a 5 receiver, no back, no tight end passing attack. We led 27-7 at the half and scored on the second play of the 3rd quarter with Red, ironically. However, a fumbled punt, kick-off return and general let down we squeaked through with a 41-32 victory. 7 boys carried the ball 56 times for 371 yards, 444 total yards. We have 4 WBs that can carry the load from both A & C back. I think that really keeps defenses on their toes being unable to key a strong side or tendencies."

NEBRASKA

ARAPAHOE 47, Gibbon 16 - Coach Daren Hatch: "We scored on 2 of our first 3 plays and were ahead 20-0 with a minute to go in the first. We rushed for 355 and passed for 118. It has been a tremendous amount of fun. This week we play the #2 ranked Cambridge Trojans. They have not lost a regular season game since '91."

NEW YORK

AMHERST 21, Lewiston-Porter 20 (Amherst wins for first time in two years!) Offensive coordinator Jason Beckman: "We finally won a game !! 21-20, we scored with three seconds left in the game (29 G-O Reach). Our C back ran for 150 yards and all three scores, once again we went over 300 yards of total offense. We went 80 yards in the last 5 minutes for the winning score, including two 4th and 1 conversions, the second 4th and 1 was from the +40 yard line, we ran Tight Liz 29 G Keep R Pass (we have the R TE sell a down block for two seconds and sneak out on a corner route - we keep everyone else in to block, the QB has a run/pass option) everyone bit on the run and our QB lofted a pass out to the TE, got down to the 14 yard line, and then we ran Blue-Blue TE screen R (down to the 3), and 29 G-O reach for the winning score. Everyone went nuts when we kicked the PAT. We had a couple ex-players (that graduated last year) on our sideline (they suffered through an 0-8 season last y these kids to finally get a win."

WEST SENECA WEST 29, Frontier 14 - Coach Jim Kuhn: "Well Coach, we got another one - West 29 Frontier 14. Kale McMany had 203 yrds. His second 200+ game in a row. Frontier brought everbody up tight and dove their DT at our guards feet. Thunder/lightning worked for one score. Going unbalanced and running 88/99 Super-O worked really well, they never adjusted. Kale had over a hundred yards just on Stack 88/99 Super Power alone. Next week is the Lancaster game. They are ranked in the top 15 in the state. We'll have our hand full but we'll give it our best shot."

BROOKVILLE 68, Northridge 0 - Coach Mark Gibson: "We are now 4 - 0 for the second consecutive year. Beat Northridge last evening 68 - 0. Our offense gained 506 total yards including 448 on the ground. We scored on offense, defense (fumble recovery), and special teams (punt return and fumble recovery). It was 68 - 0 at the end of the third quarter and our freshmen scored on their Varsity defense. The score broke a school record for the largest margin of victory at our school. Ironically, we did this on the night when we were honoring the 1949 undefeated team that held the record for 51 years ( 66 - 0 ). The men who made up that team came from all parts of the east coast to participate in the ceremony. Many of them said they were very impressed with the offense we ran, and the down field blocking that you don't see much nowadays. God Bless, Marc Gibson"

PERRYSBURG 44, Rossford 7 - Coach Ray Pohlman: "We rushed for over 400 yards...and get this we threw two Td passes and had over 100 yards passing. I think the fans were surprised we threw the ball.Next week we play state runner up Sylvania Southview. This game will be a good one." 4-game stats: A - 52 times for 401 yards, C -52 times for 643 yards ( 47C & XX47C big gainers) ; B - 66 times for 407 yards. "Like you have always said a pretty balanced attack."

A-back BRENT DEAN had 62 yards on 22 carries. Our C-backs, RYAN PUCEK and ALFONSO MARTINEZ combined for 61 yards on 10 carries. "

GRANTSBURG 56, Frederick 6 - Coach Keith Lehne: " It puts us at 2-1 in the conference and 2-2 overall. We also won in week 1 18-12 over Clear Lake. We lost the two in between however and now have to win 3 of the next 5 to make the playoffs for the 5th straight year(3rd with double wing). The positive thing for the double wing this week is that we play Cameron, so no matter who wins it will be a double wing team. This is the 3rd year that both of our teams will be running the double wing and we have had exciting games each year. We have been fortunate to win very close games each year and I expect another tough battle this week. On Friday each of our three backs had over 100 yards and we had 465 total rushing yards as well as 96 passing yards on while throwing the ball only 4 times and completing 2 which were both for TDs."

YOUTH/MIDDLE SCHOOL/FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

THIS WEEK'S LEGION OF HONOR AWARD (WITH OAK LEAF CLUSTERS) FOR VALIANT EFFORT GOES TO THE ROCKWALL MUSTANGS, OF ROCKWALL, TEXAS... and Coach Scott Barnes and his staff. After his undermanned kids played to a 6-6 tie Saturday (league doesn't allow overtime) Coach Barnes wrote me the following Double-Wing commercial:

"I know we've discussed it, but think about what my little guys were able to do yesterday. And THEN think about what would have happened if I had been running an offense like a wishbone, or T or hell, anything...

* C back only had 45 minutes practice at the position

* B back, C back had never played football before

* A back had only 2 practices at the position

* All players went both ways the entire game

* None of the linemen have ever played football before

* We had a total of 8 practices, where we also had to teach defense, kickoff and kick returns (sorry, I don't teach punting)

* We gained nearly 3 times the yardage as our opponent in our first game

"If that's not a darn commercial for the offense, I just don't know what is! I'm so proud of being "smart enough" to run this offense. Can't wait to put in xx47 this week, and refine the other staples of the O. "

(Coach Barnes failed to mention that he was also without one of his best players, one Austin Barnes, who broke his hand in practice last week.)

(Black scores are this week's, red scores are last week's games if none reported yet this week)

YUMA SCORPIONS 25 Wildcats 13. Pop Warner Mitey Mite Team (7,8,9 Years old). Coach L. E. "Stew" Stewart: "Just a line to say thanks. I have installed your DW and despite all the naysayers, it has turned out to be better than I had ever hoped for. After two games (1-0-1), I have the doubting coaches and parents saying it's a great offense. The linemen really like pulling and pancaking down field and the backs like getting in behind them. The other teams have not been able to stop us, we stop ourselves with fumbles but we will iron that out. We will have a true test in about 2 weeks when we play a team that puts 7-8 men on the line. By the way, we're a 7,8,9 year old Pop Warner team. Who says they're too young to pull?"

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

NORTH DELTA COLTS 32, Aldergrove Spartans 0 - Coach Roger Kelly: "We won our third in a row beating the Aldergrove Spartans 32-0 Sunday afternoon. Again our 47Cs are turning into our touchdown plays. We struggled a bit in the first half as they overloaded against our 88 SP. But then we went the other way and started to wedge on them finally hitting them with the 47C. We had 190 yards rushing and TDs by C backs Michael Cahill, Cam Clark and Daniel Yen and QB James Babalos."

SOUTH VALLEY PANTHERS 13, East Valley Trojans 0 - Coach Bill Shine: "The DW came through again, this time our B back Carlos Lopez had 20 carries for over 100 yds. Carlos Lopez was the workhorse of the day scoring 2 TD's on 2 wedge....Carlos had a scamper for 40 yds on a 2 wedge play. Our A back Mikell Roy had a strong day as well running the ball 7 times for 50 yds....We played in 100+ temperature this Saturday in So. Cal., but the total team came through with a great effort despite the heat and only 17 eligible players. The offensive line dominated the LOS and the wedge looked like a slow moving tank with bodies bouncing off the outside. For the second week in a row the South Valley Panthers did not have to punt. Drives were stalled due to lost fumble and a ball snapped early on a Liz Blue Blue call......We still have work to do, but our plus side is starting to get even with our negative side...." Seven different backs carried the load and the offensive line play was tremendous."

MASSACHUSETTS

WEST BOYLSTON/BOYLSTON 41, Tantasqua Regional 20 - Coach Scott Anderson: "Despite some lapses on defense and our KO return team, the offense performedpretty well. We scored on two 47c's, an 88 Blue, an 88 tight end delay pass, and a pass interception. "

TIGARD TIGERS 12, Canby 0 - Coach Kevin Thurman: "A Back Chris Roberg rushed for 119 yards and 2 TD's on 11 carries. B Back Gavin Jellison rushed for 78 yards on 9 carries. C Back Sammy Carlson had 64 yards on 8 carries, he would have gone for 100 yards also had the refs not called back a 35 yard TD run on an Illegal Shift (!?!) call. QB Hank Iba was 2-4 passing for 38 yards...We still have some work to do on the Wedge, though we looked much better with it this week. We had it clicking in the first 2 quarters but it stopped working after that. 3T2, 88 SP, and 6 G could not be stopped. 47C and 99 SP improved quite a bit this week as well but we still have room to get better on those plays. One last point... consider this: Our first drive was 13 plays, went 75 yards, and consumed 8 minutes 26 seconds. (our quarters only last 8 minutes). "

HILL COUNTRY COWBOYS 34, Dripping Springs Tigers 0 - Coach Charles Bergh: "The Double Wing Offense finally kicked into gear yesterday. My team won a big game, 34 to 0, against an arch rival...The Cowboys were fixin' to score again when the clock ran out. Although our scheduled practices during the week got rained out, we found the time to practice and rep our plays...And we rep'd the plays. I now understand the importance of repetition with this offense... (Both teams play in the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA), where classifications are by age, and there are no weight restrictions.-The Rookies are 8 & 9 years old.)

SPRING BRANCH (HOUSTON) RAMS 24, Gators 0 - Coach Frank Raffaldi: "... we ran a lot of powers and wedge blocks......we scored on 88super power.......77super power......tight rip crisscross 47-c ..........we went for passes on extra pts and they were terrible..........we have got to fix that.....we could have run any power and gotten the pat.......we ran a lot of 88 super power...88power...88 power keep .....mainly as set ups for the 77 super power and crisscrosss 47-c"

VERMONT

CENTRAL VERMONT PANTHERS 25, Winooski Spartans 0 - Coach Neil Martel: "This is a first year program and none of the kids (11-12) have ever played together before. This past Saturday the Central Vermont Panthers won their first game running the double wing by the score of 25-0 over the Winooski Spartans. The double wing was practically unstoppable with the A backs scoring two TD's with runs of 30 & 45 yards each on 88 powers along with several other big gains with 99's also. Other scores came on a Tight rip 5 X and what is our version of 29 G-O QB keep right. The kids are really loving the offense and the line gets a big kick out pulling and pancaking and getting big down field blocks Watching it on film later the opposing team's defense had no idea many times who had the ball which allowed the running backs to make several big gains. Thanks for your materials and will keep you updated as season continues."

EDMONDS CYCLONES ( 5th & 6th graders ) 14, South Everett Storm Gold 13 : Coach Glade Hall: "We beat a very tough group from South Everett. The first half belonged to us as TR47C worked for our "C" back as it did last week. He scored on a 50 yard touch down in the first quarter. We controlled the ball for short periods and scored on a TR88 Thunder "A" back pass for 45 yards. We made both extra points and went in at the half up 14-0. The second half was totally different. We could not sustain a drive. They stuffed us on the powers and controlled the ball while scoring 13 points. We got the win when our defense intercepted a pass with 2:50 to go. We then were able to run the clock out when on 4th and 14 we ran a TL56CXX for 15 yards and a first down. We'll take the win and try to build from this. South Everett was a big physical team that we'll see again in the playoffs. We'll get back to work this week."
